Strada del Riso Vialone Nano Veronese IGP
A JOURNEY THROUGH FLAVOURS, TRADITIONS AND LANDS OF WATER
In the heart of the Veronese plain, where spring waters nourish fertile and generous soil, one of Italy's finest agricultural products is grown: Vialone Nano Veronese IGP rice. Promoting and showcasing this gastronomic and cultural heritage is the Strada del Riso Vialone Nano Veronese PGI, an association recognised by the Veneto Region that brings together 20 municipalities between Verona, Modena and Rovigo in a project to promote tourism and identity.
The star of the show is Vialone Nano Veronese rice, the first Italian rice to obtain the prestigious European IGP (Protected Geographical Indication) certification. It is a prized variety, grown in particularly suitable soil and irrigated with pure spring water, which gives the grain the perfect consistency for creamy risottos and traditional local dishes.
The link between rice and the territory is profound: every handful of grains tells a story of patience, work, seasons and ancient knowledge handed down from generation to generation.
Travelling along the Rice Route means immersing yourself in a neat and lush agricultural landscape, where farmhouses, mills, rice fields and canals dot the countryside. It is a journey through golden fields and small towns rich in rural architecture, parish churches, courtyards and Venetian villas that bear witness to the agricultural and social history of this corner of the Veneto region.
The Route is not only a gastronomic journey, but also a cultural and scenic one: it offers guided tours, educational tours, local events, and actively participates in fairs and exhibitions throughout Italy, introducing Vialone Nano Veronese rice and its territory to an ever-wider audience.
The Rice Route is easily accessible:
- By car, thanks to its proximity to the Brennero-Modena motorway (Verona Sud, Nogarole Rocca and Mantova Nord exits) and the Verona-Rovigo 434 motorway.
- By plane, via Verona-Villafranca International Airport.
- By bicycle, thanks to a dense network of secondary roads with little traffic, ideal for slow, sustainable tourism in contact with nature.
Visiting the Strada del Riso Vialone Nano Veronese IGP means rediscovering authentic flavours, immersing yourself in a living agricultural culture, and coming into contact with producers, restaurateurs and guardians of ancient traditions. It is an opportunity to taste memorable risottos, learn about rice processing methods, and appreciate the silent beauty of the rice fields at sunset.
