Strada del Vino Asolo Montello
AMONG HILLS, HISTORY AND WINE GLASSES
In the green heart of the province of Treviso, in the north-west of Veneto, lies one of Italy's most fascinating wine tourism routes: the Montello and Colli Asolani Wine Route. This winding route crosses hills dotted with vineyards and historic villages, offering enchanting views and an authentic immersion in the wine and cultural treasures of the area.
The Asolo Montello area has been dedicated to viticulture for centuries, today represented by labels of excellence such as DOCG Asolo Prosecco Superiore and Montello Rosso DOCG, wines that reveal, sip after sip, the character of a place with a strong identity.
In addition to wine, this land offers a mosaic of experiences: picturesque villages, Palladian villas and landscapes that look like something out of a painting. Here, history, culture and nature intertwine with gastronomy and authentic hospitality.
The journey begins in Possagno, the birthplace of Antonio Canova. Don't miss the evocative Canoviano Temple, the Gypsotheca and the birthplace of the famous sculptor, which encapsulate Italian neoclassical genius.
The journey then continues towards Castelcucco, immersing itself in a landscape of green hills, woods and small rural villages. The colmelli, ancient rural villages of medieval origin, are ideal for a contemplative break surrounded by the scents of the Veneto countryside.
Asolo, ‘the city of a hundred horizons’, is a gem that blends elegance and history. From here, you reach Maser, where Villa Barbaro, Palladio's masterpiece and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stands majestically.
The route continues towards Cornuda and then Crocetta del Montello, where the Cippo degli Arditi commemorates the tragic events of the First World War. A few kilometres away, Montebelluna offers a combination of sport, culture and nature: famous for its sports footwear, the town is home to the Villa Biagi Museum of Natural History and Archaeology and welcomes cycle tourists with scenic routes and cycle paths surrounded by greenery.
The ideal conclusion to the journey is Montello, a hill once covered with dense oak forests, whose wood was used for the shipyards of the Serenissima. Here you can explore the Stradon del Bosco, discover the famous “prese” (the 21 access roads to the hill) and immerse yourself in lush, peaceful nature.
The Asolo Montello Wine Route is dotted with welcoming and renowned wineries, where you can taste excellent wines such as Asolo Prosecco, Pinot Bianco, Cabernet Franc and the refined Montello Rosso DOCG.
Visits to the wineries are immersive experiences: local producers open the doors of their vineyards, passionately recounting the history, winemaking techniques and secrets of tasting. Here, wine is a living culture.
The itinerary is enriched by the typical cuisine of Asolo Montello. Local restaurants offer seasonal menus featuring local products: risottos with wild herbs, grilled meats, local cheeses and traditional desserts, all accompanied by wines that enhance every flavour.
